چکیده

We consider Taylor dispersion for tracer particles in micro-fluidic planar channels with strong confinement. In this context, the channel walls modify local diffusivity tensor and also interactions between become important. provide a simple general formula effective diffusion constant along as well first non-trivial finite time correction arbitrary flows channel, interaction potentials expressions tensor. The are particular amenable to straightforward numerical implementation, rendering them extremely useful comparison experiments. present number of applications, notably systems which have parabolically varying profiles, attractive electroosmotic plates differing surface charges within Debye-H\"uckel approximation.

Generalized shift invariant systems

A countable collection X of functions in L2(IR ) is said to be a Bessel system if the associated analysis operator T ∗ X : L2(IR ) → `2(X) : f 7→ (〈f, x〉)x∈X is well-defined and bounded. A Bessel system is a fundamental frame if T ∗ X is injective and its range is closed. This paper considers the above two properties for a generalized shift-invariant system X. By definition, such a system has t...

Localization from Superselection Rules in Translationally Invariant Systems.

The cubic code model is studied in the presence of arbitrary extensive perturbations. Below a critical perturbation strength, we show that most states with finite energy are localized; the overwhelming majority of such states have energy concentrated around a finite number of defects, and remain so for a time that is near exponential in the distance between the defects. This phenomenon is due t...

Ground State Entanglement in One Dimensional Translationally Invariant Quantum Systems

We examine whether it is possible for one-dimensional translationally-invariant Hamiltonians to have ground states with a high degree of entanglement. We present a family of translationally invariant Hamiltonians {Hn} for the infinite chain. The spectral gap of Hn is Ω(1/poly(n)). Moreover, for any state in the ground space of Hn and anym, there are regions of sizem with entanglement entropy Ω(...

Translationally invariant nonlinear Schrödinger lattices

Persistence of stationary and traveling single-humped localized solutions in the spatial discretizations of the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation is addressed. The discrete NLS equation with the most general cubic polynomial function is considered. Constraints on the nonlinear function are found from the condition that the second-order difference equation for stationary solutions can be redu...

Understanding Taylor Dispersion Analysis

PROTEIN STABILITY Taylor Dispersion Analysis (TDA) is a microcapillary flow-based technique whereby a nanoliter-scale sample pulse is injected into the laminar flow of run buffer, which then spreads out axially due to the combined actions of convection and radial diffusion. Detection of the equilibrium concentration profile (or Taylorgram) of the dispersed sample pulse allows the molecular diff...
